The General Assembly, recognizing that reconciliation processes are particularly necessary and urgent in countries of the world which had suffered or were suffering, situations of conflict that had affected and divided societies in their various facets, on 20th November 2006 proclaimed "2009 the International Year of Reconciliation" (A/61/L.22).

As the focus of the activities of the S.E.R. Foundation lies on reconciliation, the Foundation has initiated a Plan of Action for the Reconciliation Year 2009.

The Foundation understands Reconciliation as the highest form of a dialogue, as an activating principle and therefore as a key to implementing a complementary view in all areas such as: Health, Environment, Social/Educational, Economics, Religion, Culture, Sciences, Policy.

As reconciliation touches our state of mind, it must comprise all levels of society as an indispensable precondition of any sustainable development; thus it starts on a personal subjective level within oneself, reaches out to the family, relatives, friends and neighbours, includes daily work, the relations in and between organizations and companies, on community and international levels.

That is why the S.E.R. Plan of Action for the Reconciliation Year 2009 integrates many stakeholders of society and can be complemented in every area and on all levels of society.
